BEAN BURGRRRZ

BEAN BURGRRRZ

This is my twist on a simple bean burger recipe to help spice it up. I added yves mexican ground round for flavour and texture! I always use the Mexican flavour because thats my favourite but this recipe would work great with all of them. This recipe also works great with TVP (Textured vegetable protein) So if you don't like store bought faux meats or you're a celiac you can make your own! These burgers really seem like the classic kind so they are great to feed to meat eaters. They are always a huge hit to everyone I feed them too and this recipe makes tons too! Great for storing food for the week. Just fry all the burgers at once and keep them in the fridge. They are even better the next day. Add smoke for extra flavour if you'd like. Enjoy:)

Recipe
makes 10

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 can chickpeas
1 can kidney beans
4 cloves garlic, minced
half a purple onion, chopped
handful of fresh thyme
1 1/2 teaspoon curry
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon cumin
pinch of salt
1/2 pack of yves mexican ground round

Burger coating
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
1/4 cup garbanzo bean flour
4 tablespoons flax seed, ground

Steps

Get a large pot and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add your beans to the pot and simmer for 10 minutes. This really adds to the flavour so don't skip this step! It also softens the beans and really helps for the mashing.

Cut your garlic and onions. Add it to the beans while they are softening. Stir in well and let it simmer longer. Once your beans are soft they are ready to mash. Use a potato masher to mash the beans and blend them together. Mash until most beans are gone and both beans are well mixed. You can add oil if its seeming a little dry because it should be sticking together well at this point. Add your ground round. Add your spices in order and mix everything together very well. To help make the burgers stick together use the masher to squish the mixture into the bottom of the pot tight. Once your burger mixture is sticking together pretty well you're ready to start forming them.

Next prepare your burger coating. Add ingredients in order and whisk together with a fork. Put the mixture onto a plate to dress the burgers on.

Take a small handful of your burger mixture and roll it in a ball. Begin to roll the ball out thinner and use the palms of your hands to help flatten it without breaking it. Take your bean burger and place it in the burger coating. Coat each side well by pressing your palm lightly against the burger while its on the plate with the burger coating. Make sure to roll the edges of the burger in the coating as well. Repeat this until all your burgers are coated.

Next get a large frying pan ready with oil to fry the burgers. They should be around 8-10 minutes on each side on medium heat. Fry until your burgers are brown and crispy. Once your burgers are as crispy as you want take them off heat and enjoy! They will be amazing.
